On Saturday, September 26, four members of Team Hammer competed in an event at Jack’s Gym in Dover, Delaware.
Coach Rodney Guignet was in an exhibition super heavyweight grappling match, which consisted of one 5 minute round. Both Rodney and his opponent countered each other’s takedown attempts for the first four minutes of the match. Toward the end of the round, Rodney’s opponent got a takedown and took a dominant position. Rodney quickly reversed the position and got on top of his opponent. However, Rodney was unable to get to full mount and accumulate more points before the time expired.
Michael Manion was originally scheduled for an International Kickboxing match. Unfortunately, his opponent did not pass the medical exam and was unable to fight. So, Mike agreed to a San-Da fight against a slightly heavier opponent. Mike’s match went for 3 exciting and action-packed rounds. Mike definitely brought heart and stamina to this match even to the last seconds of the final round. The fight was very close and ended in a split decision for his opponent.
Michael “Mic” Muessig competed in a grappling match. This was a quick match with Mic dominating his opponent. Mic jumped guard and locked up a heel hook on his opponent in a matter of seconds. Mic turned the heel hook into a knee bar to win the match by tapout in less than one minute.
Chris Bè competed in a San-Da match. He exchanged blows with his opponent and easily took his opponent to the ground. As the battle progressed, Chris was caught in the head with an unexpected kick, which led to a standing eight count. Shortly after that, Chris was caught again and knocked off balance and the fight was stopped in the first round.
