The staff at LVIRK Training Center do their best in cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting all areas of the facility. Because of the strict cleansing, we have been very fortunate not to have many outbreaks of staph infections or rashes. Even though we do what we can, infections can still be spread by failure to clean your own skin and equipment properly. So please remember to clean your body and equipment on a regular basis. We supply hand sanitizer for your convenience, so please be sure to use this after your workouts. Remember the better you take care of yourself and your equipment, the less likely your chances of contracting a serious infection.
To avoid unpleasant odors and bacteria growth, please make sure your equipment is clean and dry before locking equipment in a locker or packing in your bag. We recommend using an anti-bacterial product, such as MatGuard, to clean your equipment thoroughly.
Some Facts:
Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as "Staph," is a type of bacteria ordinarily found on the skin or in the noses of healthy people. MRSA is a potentially deadly strain of Staph that has become resistant to antibiotics. Both Staph and MRSA can easily spread through casual contact, making athletes in contact sports especially at risk.
To help prevent Staph and MRSA infections:
If you think you have an outbreak of Staph or MRSA, please consult a doctor for proper treatment. Please refrain from taking classes until cleared by your doctor, so you do not expose other students to the infection.
