Dave Shapiro made his professional MMA debut at Ring of Combat XXV in Atlantic City, NJ on June 12, 2009. Dave agreed to take the fight at 205 pounds with less than one week notice. In order to make weight, he had to lose about 20 pounds within a few days. Dave pushed himself to make weight, but the exhaustion that accompanied the rapid weight loss was not something he was prepared for.
Dave fought well during the fight, but the exhaustion hindered his full potential. After exchanging a few blows standing, Dave’s opponent took him to the ground and kept a dominant position throughout the first round. The second round looked a lot like the first, but the referree stopped the fight due to unanswered strikes and Dave lost by TKO.
We are very proud of Dave’s dedication to take this fight on such short notice, make weight, and step into the cage for a brawl.
